Education & Training

We know what works when it comes to helping smokers to quit.

Working with Smokers

In 2000, synthesizing the evidence from a review of more than 6,000 research articles, the US Public Health Service published a Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence. The Guideline recommends specific elements to increase quit rates among smokers: a system to identify smokers, clinician brief interventions, FDA-approved medications, and behavioral counseling.

Training Programs For Clinicians offered by the University of Massachusetts Medical School

The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) is a leader nationally in tobacco dependency treatment research and training for clinicians. UMass offers a wide range of continuing education (CEU) and skills training programs to help Massachusetts clinicians to intervene successfully with smokers.
